This 24 point Harper type specimen sheet came about from the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum metal type library identification project that has kind of been an ongoing project I’ve been working on since I was an intern. I was not able find this typeface in any of the books I had been looking in. However, I was luckily able to find the foundry from the pin mark. The type came from Central Type Foundry open 1870-1892. The design of this typeface is based off some illustrations by Edwin A. Abbey of Robert Herrick’s poetry published by the Harper Brothers’ in 1882. I thought all of the alternate letters were really quite stunning.
